The Mother/Father Exercise

The relationship we have with our mother and father shape who
we become as adults. These two people influence us at our very core.
When our parents are happy with their own lives, we as children,
have the full privilege to develop into normal functioning human
beings. However, when our parents’ lives are off center, we, as
children, divert attention from our own security within the family
unit. As family trust is tarnished, life takes on a feeling of self
preservation instead of the much needed feelings of being young and
 carefree.
Our parents’ number one priority is to raise us to
be independent responsible adults. When mom and dad are
irresponsible themselves, it makes the task of raising normal human
beings almost impossible.
Some people are lucky enough to have a relationship with both
of their parents. Some other people are still lucky to have at least one
parent that provides emotional and financial stability in the home. In
extreme cases, some children have to be taken care of by another
family member or even another family altogether.
As children, we don’t have a choice on how our family life is
conducted. Our emotional responses are programmed by the people
who raise us. As we get older, we begin to see that not all of our
parents’ actions and reactions are normal. We no longer have our
parents’ autonomous ways to reference. We begin to compare and
contrast their personalities to that of other families, friends, and even
what we see in the media.
When we mature, our way of processing and filtering
information shifts gradually. We begin to redefine for ourselves what
normal is. We begin to readjust our personalities according to peer
pressure and the generation gap. We align ourselves with new and
positive sources to learn and modify behavior. We change habits that
have been part of our personalities all of our lives.
Every person that comes into our lives leaves an imprint on our
personalities. We fall in love, form friendships, fall out of love, and
grow apart from friendships all in an attempt to grow spiritually and
emotionally.
In the meditation process, everything is your choice the
good things and the not so good. Therefore, everything
must become a choice.

Swimming between the good choices and not so good choices
like they are made up of the same thing is key. I decide why I have to
work smart; not hard. The reason shifts to your self empowerment
and not because your parents taught you to do so. All of your
choices as an adult are your own.
Shifting your thoughts this
way will give your choices back to you here in the present moment
instead of to the inner child and the past. The inner child feels peace
and allows you to act as an adult. This is a big concept. Mastering the
art of “I decide” is a milestone that every adult must surrender to in
order to thrive and reestablish their identity as a positive force in the
Universe. Being a positive force in the Universe because your parents
taught you is not the way. Being a positive force because you choose
to in the present moment will connect you to your higher spirit and
let you lead by example in many new aspects of your life.
Our mothers and fathers are no longer here to
dictate our actions and reactions to daily life. We have the
power of choice daily. Awareness of mimicked behavior is
the magic of breaking free from unwanted habits.
Blaming
our parents for our current misfortunes gives our power away as well
as the responsibility. We must own all of our actions in order to
change them…own it so you can change it.
Our forefathers have instilled many gifts in each and every one
of us. Take these gifts and build a life around them. Discard the traits
that do not serve you well. Do whatever it takes because your children
will inherit them as well. The life patterns of many generations
depend on you to live or to be dissolved. You are the present and your
children’s future. The past is just that…the past. Let it go…
Let it ALL go.

The One-The Final Meditation Exercise in Makeoverslife

The One is the last meditation exercise in the Makeovers Life
program. We have reached the end. The end means that you have
read and practiced all of the concepts in the program. Your mindset
has shifted. The ideas that you had about your life have also shifted.
It is now time to put everything you’ve learned into action in your
own life. You now know and see that the only way to lead is by
example. Let your actions align with your words. In times of
disagreement, place yourself on the positive side of the choice before
you and stay there… strong and filled with faith. Don’t let the negative
force stray your will.
Take the journey from sunrise to sunset every day knowing that
each day has many lessons to teach you. Learn them so that you
don’t have to repeat them. The phrase “DIES DIEM DOCET” is a
Latin phrase that says “THE DAY TEACHES THE DAY”. This means
that you must go through the day to see what fate is trying to tell you.
Align yourself with fate’s wishes. It is the easiest outcome, but hard
going through the process of this kind of surrender…to fate’s wishes.
After all, life doesn’t necessarily give you what you want. It always
gives you what you need. That you can count on every time and twice
on Sunday.
Life has stages. We are born into growing and learning. Who we
are born to and the lessons we learn as children will serve our destiny
as adults. The mere child’s play will turn into lifelong goals and
passions as adults. As young people, we leave the nest of our
childhood and venture out into the world to make our mark and
contribute to this beautiful thing called life in action in the Universe.
We have setbacks and triumphs all in the name of learning how we
are to change our own little corner of the Universe. As we mature and
the task of warrior is behind us, we look forward to paying forward all
the gifts that life has bestowed on us. Our personality traits live on in
our children and the many generations to come. Having had a
successful life simply means making it to old age healthy
and sane.
Whatever jobs you’ve had along the way have helped many people
whether you were the President of the United States of America, a
worker in a factory making goods, a teacher, or a garbage man. Your
life helped the world work.
If we only have this one life and there is nothing after, choose to be
a positive force in this Universe today. Life is good. When you wait for
good things to happen later, you miss the moment. There is a great
saying: “Yesterday is history. Tomorrow is a mystery. Today is a gift.
That’s why it’s called THE PRESENT.”
When we compare our lives with other life forces on our planet, we
can plainly see how blessed we are. The tiger has to be a tiger. The
penguin has to be a penguin. We have to be people and the
differences in our purpose are huge. What a great gift to be born
human with all the gifts of awareness, feelings and
responsibilities. The Universe is a riddle. When we see how
different our lives are compared to the lives of other living creatures,
we get a glimpse into the different levels of consciousness. Because we
don’t know what is out there in the Universe, we can only imagine
that there may be consciousness that is much more advanced than
ours. We are so different compared to the plants and animals here on
Earth.
Having an imagination is one of the greatest gifts in life. When we
believe something, we begin to see it. Not the other way around.
When we have to see something to believe it, we miss the magic. Be
careful what you believe. It shapes who you become. Spirituality lives
in our imagination.
When our habits go into automatic, it is hard to change. Choices
bring us the power to change our minds and, in turn, change our lives
in action. We must learn to reward ourselves with ‘good for you’
things. Our brains are our most powerful tools. We can’t be
addicted to bad things and expect our bodies and spirits to thrive.
Addictions are born out of habits and keep us in one spot.
Never growing. Never evolving.
Taking action and doing whatever it takes to release ourselves from
the strong hands of addiction allows our bodies to heal and our spirits
to soar towards new heights. Old doors will close so that new ones
may open.
Even though our lives have reached cruising altitudes, our purpose
is far from over. We must now learn to maintain what we’ve worked
so hard to achieve. Maintaining a lifestyle is similar to working
towards one. The work is the same. Finding satisfaction in the things
we already have is the key. People forget that they’ve reached their
goals. They stay in building mode. Sometimes too long and keep on
building instead of maintaining. This is a huge pitfall of success.
At some point, we must decide that we have enough.
Maintaining our current lifestyle opens new opportunities to grow
spiritually. It allows us to begin the winding down process in life and
to pay forward what we’ve been given so gracefully. Our higher
purpose is born out of following the river of life and appreciating
every stepping stone…just as it is…in the moment along the way. After
a certain age, we must take responsibility for all that we are. Only in
owning everything, do we get the power to change it. When we place
blame outside of ourselves, we give away the pain. Unfortunately, we
also give away the power to fix it. Own it so you can change it.
Life is about what you leave behind in your children, family, and
friends. Money only comes and stays when you find something you
love to do. Money is like water. As soon as you try to hold onto it, it
seeps through your fingers. Money is only a secondary to a primary
anchored to passionate work.
A job is only as good as the people who carry it through.
As the strongest life force on this planet, we have to look inward to
find the answers that will move us forward. At this time in history, we
must ban together to take care of each other and our planet. If not, we
don’t allow ourselves to move forward physically or spiritually.
Greed and narcissism must be dissolved by kindness, integrity, and
love. As human consciousness, we must leave our selfish desires in
the shadows and reach out to help each other shine.
You be the change you want to see in the world. As we have entered
the new millennium and spiritual continental fusion is being
created, people have already taken on a new mindset of being one
guiding force towards positive life in action in the Universe.

Yoga Introduction

Yoga is a form of exercise that unites breath, mind, body, and
spirit. The word and practice YOGA conjures up images of Eastern
philosophy and ancient practices. Modern day yoga practice has been
discovered in the Western world by many people who want to
strengthen their bodies in a new way. Yoga is not the fast pace
cardiovascular workout like running, dance class, or a sport like
tennis. Yoga is learning how to slow your thoughts way down, place
all your attention on the present moment, and create an oasis of
stillness in your movements. Striking a yoga pose builds strength in
every part of your body. It reconnects you to your higher spirit while
your body and mind learn to BE still.

Breathing:
The most important part is learning the yoga practice of breathing.
The automatic shallow breathing we do everyday is not the way. The
correct way is to inhale through your nose as you begin counting at an
even pace. One… two…three…four. Take in as much air into your
lungs as you possibly can and hold it for a brief moment. Your
abdomen or belly should expand as you are taking a big breath of air.
Let the flow of breath into your chest and belly. When you reach the
number four exhale just as slowly and evenly counting backwards.
Four…three…two…one.
Placing all attention on breathing gives your thoughts a way to
defuse so that you can concentrate on the task at hand-doing your
yoga practice. As thoughts come up, let them pass like cars on the
highway. As soon as you realize that your attention has wandered off
from your breathing, bring it back gently to this important work.
Teaching yourself to do this will move mountains in terms of your
ability to control where your attention goes throughout the day off of
your yoga mat as well.
The result in learning to concentrate on your breath during yoga
practice is a feeling. It is a feeling of something familiar- peace and
surrender. You will know this feeling when you come upon it. Only
through patience and practice will this be disclosed to you. Your mind
now becomes a tool. You may use it to reshape your thoughts and
therefore, your actions as well. Fear fades and peace grows.
In conclusion, your breath should be graceful and steady. It is even
more important than the form of the pose itself. Inhale on opening
the body. Exhale when releasing and closing the body.
The process of each pose:
The process of a yoga session may be compared to cooking a recipe.
It takes many different ingredients to create a dish. Each one serves
its purpose for making the food taste good. In yoga, each pose is like
an ingredient to create a soothing session that will make the body
stronger and the mind more peaceful. The inversion poses give your
mind and body a chance to shift into the yoga mindset. It stretches
your limbs and creates a sense of familiarity on what you expect your
mind and body to do next. Stretching your body and stretching your
mind. Slow stretching is wonderful. Your body enjoys it and awakens
it gently.
Babies and children yawn and stretch gracefully each time they
awaken-even newborns. They round their backs and stretch their
arms and legs in sheer satisfaction.
The yoga poses in the Makeovers Fitness program are designed to
offer you a well rounded yoga session.
 Remember to breathe...Enjoy the silence...

Ocean of Infinite Patience

Patience:  the ability to stay emotionally and physically calm no matter what action is taking place in your life.
First and foremost, patience is a feeling of peace and surrender. We imagine God to have an ocean of infinite patience for each and every one of us in whatever chaos we create in our daily lives.  Each person also has the ability to create a space for infinite patience in their own inner selves.
Remember that it is not our job to stand in judgment of anyone’s choices—good or bad. This job is held by the Laws of the Universe, Karma, and God. If someone is unfair to you, it is not your job to pay that person their due. Instead, make the decision to drop the whole incident in the ocean of infinite patience:

Kerplunk!!!
For Example:

My ex-husband is not a good dad.  He is late picking up the kids.  He is impatient with them and breaks his promises constantly.

Developing a mindset that it is not your job to make him do right by the children relieves you of the responsibility of keeping track of his shortcomings.  What a relief to know he is no longer your concern!   Place his outrageous fate in God’s ocean of infinite patience:

Kerplunk!!!

There are times when patience will not be enough to contain an emotionally charged event.  Sometimes things just explode.  Handling the mess afterwards is just as important of a task.  Bad habits like shutting down for days with loved ones or carrying resentment for days, months, and years are useless. God is the only one who can manage that kind of emotional pain. The practice of patience can resolve these bad habits.

Finally, having patience is a difficult art. To master it, you must practice it daily. Try practicing your patience with the people and events in your everyday life:

Children
  Husband
Traffic
Rude people
Family
Cleaning
Broken Machines
Friends
Receiving bad news

Practicing this exercise daily will bring a greater capacity for patience into your life. Awareness of your own patience is the goal.

Exercise:
1.      Find a quiet spot.
2.    Sit down. Get comfortable.
3.    Close your eyes.
4.    Clear your mind.
5.     Say to yourself, “I have an ocean of infinite patience that trickles in all of my relationships and daily actions.”
6.    Repeat this phrase until you begin to feel like you are creating a space for infinite patience in your inner dialogue.
7.     End the exercise by saying to yourself, “My work is done for now. Thank you. Peace.”

In times of impatience, say to yourself, “I have an ocean of infinite patience.” Practice patience daily.
